Book Euphoria Q1: What is your writing process? Do you have a routine or must be in a zone before you write?

Jay Hart A1: My writing process for Mistake Number 11 was actually kind of awkward. The chapters started as stories of my relationships that I wrote about on Facebook. Then they began to get popular and that’s how I got my publishing deal.

That’s when Mistake Number 11 became real to me. I would play Love Jones on a very low volume, crack open a bottle of red wine, play Jhene Aiko on Spotify, and sit by the window on my black, leather sectional with my laptop and get to it!
I’d leave the lights off in the living room and work by the distant light from the kitchen and somehow, someway, that created the atomosphere that sprouted my creativity. And whenever that became too routine, I’d go write near a body of water.

Book Euphoria Q2: What’s one word that describes the feeling you have when you write? Why that word?

Jay Hart A2: Peaceful. When I write, I feel so in control. In control of my efforts, in control of my thoughts, in control of my destiny, and in control of my creativity. And being in control makes me peaceful.

Book Euphoria Q3: Do you have a favorite kind of story or hook you like to write? Ex: friends to lovers

Jay Hart A3: I like to write stories that are complex and impartial with not even a hint of a bias. I love truth and transparency. That’s what you get when you crack open Mistake Number 11.

Book Euphoria Q4: What’s your favorite book that you’ve written so far?

Jay Hart A4: I’m currently writing my second book so Mistake Number 11 is my only work in publication.

Book Euphoria Q5: How can readers contact you?

Jay Hart A5: I can be reached at, on Instagram at @bigdealjfk or on Facebook at

  1. Not particularly. There’s so much wine out there, I don’t limit myself. Why not enjoy different profiles and techniques? I do tend to lean towards those that have a balance of being fruity, but still somewhat full bodied lol. It’s not the easiest to find.
